TheEssentials:ColdSpring,NY

Dear Reader,

This summer, I visited NYC twice and both times, took some time to go upstate to the village of Cold Spring, NY. Before this summer, I had never visited any of the towns near NYC, but upon arriving to visit one of my best friends, @remedio.d.alma , we both coincidentally realized we needed a day upsate so we quickly googled some locations and decided on Cold Spring, not really knowing what to expect. The more we discovered the town that day, the more we knew we had found the perfect choice and a place we would definitely be coming back to. With the perfect size, balance of activities, and distance from the city, I think Cold Spring has it all for an easy day or weekend trip whenever you are in search of a slower pace.

How to get there? 1h30 from Grand Central on Metro North towards Poughkeepsie

My Recommendations:

Kape Mo Coffee + Maker’s Marketplace

BEAUTIFUL concept store and specialty drinks shop. Perfect for finding a special gift, with a variety of ethically made products. The adjacent tea/coffee shop had many unique drinks which sounded delicious. Next time I am there I will definitely be trying one!

Damn Aged Vintage

An upscale boutique for vintage lovers. They have a varied selection with countless unique statement pieces. One of my favorite finds was a vintage Mexican wedding dress with the most beautiful corset. I bought the sweetest pink gingham minidress from the 60s! The owner is also so sweet, shopping there is a lovely experience.

Supplies for Creative Living

It says it in the name, anything you could want for a creative life, from stationary to books. I loved their artisan/handmade art products. They host a community open studio Monday to Wednesday which I’d love to attend one day.

Pink Olive

Stationary & Gifts

Judie’s Bungalow

A little bit of everything from trinkets to furniture to art. I’d describe shopping here as scavenging through your cool grandma’s attic. The style is definitely very particular, but I think everyone can enjoy a visit to this store. We had such a fun time talking to Judie, artist and owner.

Cathryn’s Tuscan Grill

On our first visit, we had lunch here. We wanted something casual, so we shared the margarita pizza. It was soo good and perfect for the moment. We sat on the terrace and loved the ambiance. Perfect for days when you want to enjoy the nice weather outside.

The Foundry Rose

Loved this breakfast & lunch spot. Everything was fresh and delicious, especially the tacos ;). I loved the interior of the restaurant, they blend an impeccably maintained historic building with some modern touches and a lot of natural light to create a truly lovely environment. The staff is also great! I lost my better pictures from here but it's ok :)

Chill by the Riverside

Take a moment to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Hudson river with the backdrop of the Hudson Highlands. Take some art supplies to sketch or buy an ice cream at MooMoo’s creamery for a picnic :)

Roam the streets and admire the beautiful historic homes

Go on a hike!

There are so many for all levels and interests. We had a great time doing the West Point Foundry Preserve trail, one of the shorter trails which takes you through a civil war foundry site! Just remember to be careful with the ticks!

Some things on my list for next time:

  • Cold Spring Farmers Market

  • Free Outdoor Summer movie nights

  • Once Upon a Time Antiques

  • Pig Hill Inn Bed and Breakfast

  • Experience autumn in Cold Spring

  • Kape Mo Coffee

  • Le Bouchon, French restaurant

  • Rincón Argentino

This trip definitely made me realize that there is so much to see upstate and I am determined to continue finding and visting these hidden gems! If you have any recommendations for Cold Spring or other upstate towns I should visit, I’d love to hear them!! Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoy these places as much as I did!

Love,

Kalena ♡
